Description:

Agricultural areas irrigated with center pivots were identified and digitized within the Apalachicola River basin and some surrounding areas using a grid system with Florida aerial imagery and Lidar data (developed within years 2006-2010). Jackson county was analyzed in its entirety using this method, while only portions of Calhoun, Liberty, and Gadsden counties within the ACF basin were analyzed using the grid system method. At a later time, the remaining counties within NWFWMD were scanned for center pivots, but were not scrutinized using the grid system. Therefore, there may be some center pivots that were not accounted for. Also used the FSAID Irrigated Land Geodatabase as a supplement to identifying center pivots. The Aerial Imagery used was aquired from the Florida Department of Transporation (DOT, 2010, 2013) and the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP, 2010 for Florida). Round agricultural fields visible on aerial photography were drawn and partial circles adjusted. Not all center pivot areas identified may currently be irrigated. State, County, Basin, and Sub-Basin fields are specified within the attribute table.
